Recommended Operating Instructions for Tronair 01-1202-0000 Towbar

$
0
0

Tronair-01-1202-0000-Multi-Head-Aircraft-Towbar-PJ

For up to date operating information and checklists, please refer to the manual on the unit from the manufacturer.
**This page is for reference only**

Operating the 01-1202-000 Towbar:
**Reference only information. Review manual prior to operation.

  • It is important to verify that the towbar is sized properly for both the aircraft to be moved and the tug that is going to be doing the moving.
  • Make sure the towbar is securely connected to the aircraft. The towbar should be as close to horizontal as possible.
  • The angle between the tug and the towbar should be roughly 90 degrees.
  • Safely moving the aircraft requires two people.
  • Correctly size the towing eye for the pintle hook used on the tug.
  • Match the pintle hook and towbar eyebolt.

Towbar Checklist:

  • Check towing eye for bending, excessive wear and/or deformity. Contact Tronair for repair/replacement if towing eye is bent, excessively worn or deformed.
  • Check towing eye mounting bolts. Ensure fasteners are not loose or missing. Tighten to 25 ft-lbs or replace as required.
  • Ensure that the towing eye does not turn; if the towing eye can turn it indicates that the centering pin within the shock assembly may have been broken and repairs are needed.
  • Check the shock assembly for preload on the spring by pulling on the towing eye. If the shock can be moved by hand it indicates that the spring is worn out and Tronair should be contacted for repairs.
  • Inspect the towbar tube for cracks, gouges greater than 1/16 inch, and bends or deformities. A damaged or bent towbar should not be used. Contact Tronair for replacement.
  • Check the casters to ensure the swivels operate freely and the bearings are not missing. Replace if needed.
  • Ensure that the caster mounting fasteners are not loose or missing. Tighten or replace as required.
  • Check the caster mounting plate and channel. If the caster mounting plate is bent or broken or if the channel welds are broken, contact Tronair for repairs.
  • Inspect the lifting handle at the towing eye end. Replace or repair the handle if it is missing or damaged. Ensure the mounting fasteners are not loose or missing. Tighten or replace as required.
  • Check the towbar undercarriage. Inflate the pneumatic tires to the proper pressure; fix any air leaks or replace if needed, ensure the wheels can rotate freely, wheel rims are not bent, and tire axle is not bent. Ensure mounting fasteners are not loose or missing; tighten or replace as required. Grease the tire axle every 90 days to 6 months.
  • Inspect towing head attachment ball loc pin. Verify that the factory supplied ball loc pin is used; contact Tronair for replacement if required. Do not substitute without Tronair approval.

Aircraft Attachment:
It is recommended that your towbar be attached to the aircraft first, and then connected to the tug to avoid possible aircraft damage.

We receive numerous requests for used along with new Tronair part numbers on HPUs and their respective identification. Tronair recently changed their part numbers on all their HPUs to a new numbering system. The old part numbers on their hydraulic power units are very similar but not quite the same as their new numbering system.

We have included a chart below on their previous numbering system along with the new chart for your comparison. If you have any questions on the part numbers or an older Tronair HPU, please let us know.

Description of the FoxAir 60

FoxAir consists of a packaged air conditioning unit, modified for portability and use in an aircraft hangar environment providing pre-conditioned air via a 10” delivery hose. The unit is packaged for durability and to accommodate portability with minimum maintenance requirements. It utilizes a sealed R410A refrigeration system and there are no user serviceable components, nor can the unit be re-charged with refrigerant by the user. Any failure of the sealed refrigerant system must be returned to Foxtronics, Inc. for repair, or referred to an air conditioning repair professional.

When operating in the cooling mode, FoxAir removes moisture from ambient the air. An integral drain located in the center of the bottom of the unit offers the option of draining the excess water directly on to the ground underneath the FoxAir unit, or to a remote drain via the optional drain kit. The unit also features a unique “wicking” feature that allows the drain to be capped (as shipped from the factory) and excess water is then “wicked” up via the condenser fan blade. This mode also provides additional cooling capability and is useful in extremely hot environments.

FoxAir units, without the remote control option, are factory set to the highest cooling setting and no adjustments are available. The main power breaker switch on the front panel powers the unit ON and OFF. FoxAir units supplied with IR Remote Control functionality utilize an electronic control module that memorizes the last setting of the unit when switching the unit OFF via the main power breaker switch on the front panel, or during a power failure. When the unit is switched back ON, or power restored, the unit will begin operating in the same mode as before power was removed. Temperature, mode, timer, and fan speed functions are displayed on, and controlled via the hand held IR Remote Control. The base FoxAir 60/50/B unit is a cooling only unit. An optional heating function adds an electric heating element that provides up to 12, 000 BTU of heat.

Available Options for the FoxAir Unit:
  • 12,000 BTU Heating option. Electric heating element provides 12, 000 BTU of heat.
  • Air Hose extension coupling. To connect two 25’ lengths of air deliver hose extending reach to 50’.
  • 25’ Hose-in-Bag option. 25’ hose with integral designed storage bag with handle. Optional 25’ insulated air delivery hose recommended for use in direct sunlight.
  • “Y” coupling for connecting two 6” air delivery hoses directly to FoxAir unit.
  • Drain hose kit available in 50’ & 100’ lengths. Includes angled cutoff valve and hose. Optional 100’ & 150’ input cable lengths.
  • Hose Rack. Stores air delivery hose and drain hose on top of FoxAir unit. Electrical wall box and receptacle kit. Mates with plug supplied with FoxAir cart. Custom color options upon request.
  • Stainless Steel option for high corrosion environments.
  • Replacement anti-microbial air filter.
  • Replacement IR Remote Control.

You Ask. We Help.
All of your JetPorter JP30 / JP30L Electric Aircraft Tug Questions

JetPorter-JP30-Electric-Aircraft-Tug-PJ

How much weight will the JP30 / JP30L tow?
The units are engineered and rated to tow up to 30,000 lbs.

What is the difference in the JP30 and JP30L? Why would I need a JP30L?
The JP30L is 3 feet longer than the standard JP30. This unit is recommended for longer nose wheel set backs on aircraft to allow more room between the operator and the nose of the aircraft. Certain aircraft examples include Pilatus and some Falcon aircraft. The JP30L also has an extra bank of batteries for longer run time.

Do I need any adapters for the electric aircraft tug and my aircraft?
Most aircraft do not require any adapters. Securing the aircraft on the cradle with the strap method will work on most aircraft. Some aircraft do require adapters including some Lears, Falcons, and a few others. If you have questions on using a JetPorter for your aircraft, just ask us. We would be glad to help!

What is the warranty on the JP30 or JP30?
New units come with a 2 year Tronair Platinum Warranty.

Is there a ground power unit on these tugs?
The JP30 and JP30L have a built in 12-24-28/30V power supply to assist starting aircraft engines. The power supply is to only help the batteries during starts or run any very low load items on the aircraft. If you run any high load systems including air conditioning with the power supply, it will ruin the JetPorter batteries.

What is the max amp draw on the ground power unit / power supply?
500 amps

How many batteries are on these units and what kind are they?
On the JP30, there are 8 deep cycle 6V batteries. On the JP30L, there are 16 deep cycle 6V batteries. Whenever you need to replace the batteries in the future, you can purchase new batteries from a local deep cycle battery supplier. They will bring you new batteries and dispose of your old batteries.

How long does it take to charge the unit?
Units are capable of a full recharge in 8 hours.

Does it have an external battery charger?
The JP30/JP30L makes charging simple by including an onboard/internal 120V AC battery charger.

Will the tires go flat?
The JetPorter tugs are unique in the industry with low maintenance, solid rubber tires. You never have to worry about a flat tire when you need to move the aircraft.

What kind of motor is installed on the units?
The JP30/JP30L has a rugged 6 horsepower, 48V, continuous duty-cycle drive motor with a digital logic controller. The motor is connected directly to a two speed transaxle which minimizes the number of moving parts.

Are lights included on the tugs?
There are two forward and rear facing headlights along with a amber strobe light.

Is the winch manual, electric, or hydraulic?
It is a two speed manual winch.

Can the operator platform handle two people?
The operator’s platform is big enough to handle the operator and one passenger.

What kind of braking is on the JP30/JP30L?
To brake on the units, the operator moves the joystick in the reverse direction to activate dynamic braking. The operator can apply as much braking as need. There is also an Emergency/Parking brake that is a disk brake on the drive motor which is operated electrically. The Emergency/Parking brake is released when the power is on the unit and the deadman switch is pressed.

What kind of regular maintenance can I expect to do on a JetPorter?
There is very basic maintenance that is recommended on the JP30/JP30L. This includes charging the batteries and keeping the battery fluid at proper levels.

What kind of support is available for the JP30 / JP30?
We are able to provide any support and help with questions on your JetPorter tug. If we can’t help, we can provide you with the best support representative or engineer at Tronair. We are here to help along with Tronair to make sure you have the best electric tug experience in the industry.

You Ask. We Help.
All of your JetPorter JP100s Electric Aircraft Tug Questions

JetPorter JP100s

We love GSE, and we wanna help you. These are common questions that have been asked along with all the answers. If you have another question on the JP100s, please let us know. We will be glad to provide you with the answer and add to this article for everyone.

General Questions

What type of aircraft will this tractor tow?
The JP100s is capable of towing corporate to regional jet aircraft weighing up to 100,000 lbs.

What are the best features of the JP100s?
The JP100s is an industry leading electric tug that will tow up to 100,000 lbs. This model includes 2 – 10HP motors, all rubber tires so you never have to worry about a flat tire, industrial deep cycle batteries, redundant braking, winch system pressure sensitive mat switch, and a superior 98 inch turning radius for awesome maneuverability and hangar stacking capabilities.JP100s-Turning-Radius

What are the benefits of using the JP100s?
The JP100s doesn’t compete with competition for ease of use in the hangar and on the ramp. This unit allows operators to stack hangars to use all available space in your hangar along with being able to tow the aircraft from underneath the nose. The video below has a great demonstration of this feature.

Aircraft Adapters and Accessories

Do I need any special adapters or accessories for use on my aircraft?
Most aircraft will not need any special adapters or accessories to use the JP100s for towing. The standard nose wheel securing strap method can be used safely on a majority of the aircraft. There are a select few types of aircraft that will need a custom designed head to work with electric tugs. A couple of the common aircraft that custom heads are needed include Falcons, Learjets, and Dash-8s. If you have any questions with the JP100s and your aircraft capability, please ask us!

Is there any extra accessory or add on charges when purchasing the standard unit?
The standard JP100s is priced with all the standard options and accessories included. There are a few accessories and adapters you can purchase extra for your tug. You can review all adapters and accessories at this link for your JetPorter.

Batteries and Charging

How many batteries and what type are in the unit?
There are 16 – 6 volt deep cycle batteries in the unit. The charge time is 8 hours average from full discharge.

How and when would I need to replace the batteries?
If batteries are properly taken care of along with proper charging techniques, the batteries could last operators up to 5 years or longer. The battery manufacturer says you should get at least a 3 year battery life. When you need to replace the batteries, you can call your local industrial battery supplier to come drop off new batteries and pick up your old ones to properly dispose of them.

Can I leave the unit plugged in all the time? If I do, will it hurt the batteries?
Tronair says if you continuously recharge the batteries without discharging them, it will shorten the life. We always recommend along with the manual is recharging the batteries when it reaches 30-40%. The battery charger will also shut off when the batteries are completely charged. To start the charging process again, you would have to disconnect the charger from the unit and connect again.

Will the charger work on 50hz input voltage?
At the time of purchasing your JetPorter, please indicate if you will need a 50 HZ or 60 HZ charger. The chargers are built differently for the two input voltages, but the charger is included with the standard unit at no extra costs.

Is the charger separate from the unit?
The charger is separate from the unit, and you will need to have it installed by a qualified electrician. You will need to make sure you install the charger in the same location where you plan on parking your JP100s.

How long does it take to charge?
From full discharge of the batteries, it takes about 8 hours to recharge them.

What is the standard run time on the unit?
The normal operation is an average of 8 hours on a full charge.

Operation of the JP100s and Components

What type of braking is on the unit?
This unit has 3 different braking systems. The primary system is regenerative braking which changes the electrical fields converting the motor to a generator. By reducing foot pressure to the throttle the operator controls how much braking is applied. A foot pedal operates the service disk brake system. The emergency/parking brake system is automatically set anytime the operator leaves the platform or if electrical or hydraulic power is removed.

JP100s Brake

Is the winch strap manual or hydraulically operated?
The winch is hydraulic and can be operated from the driver’s operating panel or from the rocker switch on the front right hand side of the unit.

JP100s Cradle

Does it have a GPU feature or add on available?
The JP100s does not include a ground power unit / start assist option.

Is there a passenger seat?
Yes, there is an extra seat for a passenger to ride with the driver.

Does it come standard with a tow hitch?
Yes, the rear pintle hitch is standard on the JP100s model.

I need to stand up and see the front of the cradle while driving, how can I accomplish this?
The front steering wheel column can be adjusted to a vertical position to allow a superior operating experience for the driver when standing up. Setting the column in the upright position also sets the tractor into a “slow drive mode” for additional safety.

What type of motors are in the unit?
There are two 10 HP separately excited, continuous duty, DC motors that are coupled directly to independent drive hubs eliminating many drive train parts. These separate motors with independent controllers give the JP100s proportional drive steering providing a zero degree turning radius, reduced tire wear, and increased traction and control on snow and ice.

Is the ride smooth for the operator?
The JP100 series has a leaf spring suspension. The driver and operator standard seats have adjustable suspension providing further comfort.

Support and Spare Parts

If I need support or have any questions, who can I contact?
We are always available along with the JetPorter team at Tronair to help answer any questions and provide support for your unit. If you have any questions, please just ask us!

Should I purchase spare parts?
Tronair has a constant supply of “safety stock” in Ohio. There is no need to buy spare parts when you can have them within 24-48 hours.

What is the warranty on the unit?
A new JP100s comes with a one year standard warranty from the factory.

Does Tronair offer training on the unit?
Tronair offers free training at their facility in Holland, OH for any new and current JetPorter operators. They also can provide technical training over the phone.

Purchasing Your New JP100s

Am I able to have a custom color on the JP100s?
Yes, Tronair can provide the JetPorter series in any color. Non-standard paint will have a small charge. However, standard PPG will not have any extra costs.

Do you have lease options?
Yes, we do offer lease options for the JP100s. Please let us know if you are interested in a lease, and we would be glad to help on it.

Can I trade in my older unit?
We do have a trade-in / buy-back program available to help offset the costs of a new JP100s. For more information on the program and to start the process of trading-in your quality used GSE, please click this link.
